🕯️ Florodora Girl (1930) 🎬 “Hey, toots! Step right up to the Main Stem and catch this bee’s knees of a talkie. Our last original Florodora chorine is ankle-deep in a butter-and-egg man chase all over Gotham—playing hard-to-get, dodging the gold-digger rap, and still landing the darb. It’s copacetic romance with pre-Code sass, a little foot fever, and a Technicolor finale that’ll knock your cheaters off. Abyssinia at the curtain, doll!” Cast (in chorine lingo) Marion Davies as Daisy — the original Florodora fluff who refuses to be a gold-digger. She’s no after-beat Annie; she’s the real McCoy holding out for the whole package. Lawrence Gray as Jack Vibart — the darb / butter-and-egg man with the millionaire chassis. Mama’s boy who almost gets high-hatted into the wrong marriage. Ilka Chase as Fanny & Vivien Oakland as Maud — the savvy chorine pals giving the “play hard-to-get” lowdown (and the “he’s just after one thing” applesauce). Walter Catlett as De Boer & Louis John Bartels as Hemingway — the Broadway types hanging around the sextette. Nance O’Neil as Mrs. Vibart — the society dame who nearly puts the kibosh on the whole romance. Supporting dolls & joes: George Chandler (the poor-but-sweet cigar-shop joe), Claud Allister (the titled fluff), Sam Hardy, and the rest of the Florodora lineup. Crew (factory talk) Harry Beaumont — the director keeping the foot fever high and the boom-boom busy at the MGM factory. Marion Davies — producer (and the star who knows her way around a Cosmopolitan production). Writers — Gene Markey (story) + Ralph Spence, Al Boasberg & Robert E. Hopkins (screenplay) spinning the Gay Nineties gold-digger comedy. Herbert Stothart — the man putting the music in (including that famous “Tell Me Pretty Maiden” number). Oliver T. Marsh (cinematography, aka the blinker man) & Carl Pierson (editor) making sure the whole thing is copacetic. Locations (where the chase happens) The Great White Way / Casino Theatre vibe — Florodora itself and the stage-door parade of carriages and sugar daddies. NYC streets & horseless carriages — bicycle rides, beach rescues, and “slumming” parties. Society ball & the Vibart pile — high-hat territory where dresses malfunction and engagement news drops. Football game (Yale vs. Columbia) & racetrack — where the butter-and-egg man shows his colors (and loses the family fortune). Bowery / tenement scenes — the other side of the chase. Filmed at the MGM Culver City factory, with a two-strip Technicolor finale that still survives. #TheFlorodoraGirl #Florodora #ChorusGirl #MarionDavies #LawrenceGray #HarryBeaumont #1930sFilm #ClassicMusical #GoldenAgeHollywood #VintageRomance #BroadwayRomance #Nineties #OldHollywood #ClassicFilm #GoldDigger #Classic #BlimeyTV #VintageComedy #NYC #FlorodoraSextette #Hollywood #1930Musical #chorus #girl #WWENXT #netflix #xmovies #twittermovies #freemovies #MoviesTvTj #movies #publicdomainmovies #movieunleashers
